Scuba diving is the term used to describe
the use of a self-contained underwater breathing apparatus where
a person submerges to stay underwater for periods of time greater
than the average individual can breath-hold.
With two thirds of the world today is covered by water and scuba
divers are able to explore the natural world beneath, be it
coral reefs, shipwrecks, living creatures or submerged caves.
The word 'SCUBA' is an acronym for "Self Contained Underwater
Breathing Apparatus", but it is grammatically acceptable
to refer to 'scuba equipment' or 'scuba apparatus' in conversation.

Today in the USA alone there are 8.5 million men
& women that spend their weekends recreational scuba diving,
in Europe there are also millions of scuba divers enjoying the
same.
The diver carries all equipment necessary for diving and is
not reliant upon equipment elsewhere (e.g. on the surface) to
supply breathing gas or other support during the dive. The diver
swims underwater using fins attached to his/her feet. |

Some scuba divers also move around with the assistance
of a DPV (Diver Propulsion Vehicle), commonly referred to as
a "scooter",
Scuba diving can be dangerous if the physics of being submerged
underwater and the resulting decompression is not fully understood,
therefore a course of instruction is taken under a professional
and recognised body.
Scuba diving is still evolving, and those interested will discover
an entire industry of highly manufactured equipment, agencies
responsible for training and the governing of instruction and
instructors, guides and holiday resorts specific to the sport.
We hope you enjoy scuba diving as much as we enjoy teaching
it, so why not take a scuba class and join millions of others
discovering the blue planet for themselves.
