Getting to Deep Blue and the Mount Batten Centre.
Head down the A38 Devon Expressway for Plymouth. This is a great
road if you have a fast car / bike, but watch out for lurking Police.
Take the City Centre turnoff next to Sainsbury's. Head into Town,
but watch out for speed cameras down this stretch of road. Follow
signs for Kingsbridge which will take you over the River and heading
East out of Plymouth. Keep your eyes peeled for the Mount Batten
turnoff which is about half a mile after the bridge. Turn right
at the turning ( there is a Mac D's here too ) and then stay on
this road heading for Mount Batten. You will come to a crossroads
with traffic lights that has no signs on it. TURN RIGHT !. After
turning right, simply stay on this road heading for Mount Batten.
Endeavour will normally use the Mount Batten Centre as it’s
primary pick up point but if the tides are too low then we use the
Water Taxi Pontoon which is another 200m further down the road.
Whichever pontoon we are using it’s always best to call us
on 07791 152 317 to check first to save any unnecessary unloading!
There are also 2 free car parks in the Mount Batten area and please
do not park in the Mount Batten Hotel’s car park unless you
are a guest there.
Getting to Sutton Harbour. (West Side of Plymouth)
We tend to use Sutton Harbour when we are running training courses
as the area is much quieter.
Endeavour has a permanent berth in Sutton Harbour and we have electricity
and water supply on the pontoon which is great for washing kit down.
If you intend to load here you must check with us first as we will
need to meet you at the gate to let you in with a magnetic key.
Please do not just turn up and expect to be able to load as you
may find we have left to go over to Mount Batten.
We intend to be using Sutton Harbour more over the next few years
as the parking situation improves but for now the best place is
by far Mount Batten.
To get to Sutton Harbour follow the signs for City Centre and as
you drive down the embankment road you will see the large river
estuary on your left.
The road will then split two ways and you need to stay in the left
hand lane heading for the City Centre. This will then take you down
a one way system and eventually round a long right hand bend and
up to a round about where you turn left again into Exeter Street.
Stay on this small section of dual carriageway again staying in
the left hand lane until you see the road fork off to the left which
takes you to the Barbican area. If you arrive at another roundabout
with a bombed out Church in the middle of it you have missed the
left hand turn so double back on yourself and try again.
Assuming you got the left hand turn ok stay on this road for 300m
until you hit a mini roundabout. Turn left here and stay on the
road going past Aquanauts dive centre which are based on a tight
right hand bend.
Go around the bend and then take your third left hand turn into
a one way system that takes you through the narrow road and Barbican
shops. You will see a large glass building on your left and as the
road opens out you will see Sutton Harbour also on your left and
that is where Endeavour is moored.
Parking is a nightmare and very expensive so we are not using this
as our normal pick up point until all is sorted, remember you must
call us first if you plan to use Sutton Harbour as the load / unload
area.
